It's common knowledge that certain races and classes in mmo's attract idiots.  You know what I mean, most of you played WoW.  How many times did you see a Night Elf hunter named "Leagolas" or "Leegolas" in a battleground, and how many times did he turn out to be completely retarded?  Probably more times than you can count on your fingers and toes.

But it was to be expected.  World of Warcraft released during the Lord of the Rings craze, and everyone waned to be a hero just like those in the movie.  Thus, on most servers at release (and for years afterwards), the number of Alliance far outmatched the number of Horde. Initially this posed little problem, however when the first big PVP patch came, it completely changed the dynamic of the game.  Alliance used their huge zerg numbers to win in world PVP, and Horde was forced to be more intelligent, cautious and cunning.  This varied a little server to server of course, but it was fairly commonplace.

Now, (I swear I'm about done talking about WoW) like many, many people, I played Alliance in WoW.  After years of getting my ass handed to me in PVP due to the sheer retardedness of those on my teams, I decided that I'd play Destruction in Warhammer.  All the good players will be there, I thought.  It'll be just like WoW!  Order will have the numbers, but Destruction will have the skill, and it will be a wonderful happy land of glee and joy.

However, it seems like the rest of the population was thinking the same thing.  Every night when I log on, the vast majority of the servers on my list have higher Destruction populations than Order populations.  Population imbalances, again, are nothing new.

But my question is this: In a game where world PVP plays a vital purpose, how will population imbalances affect said PVP?

Already I've seen several instances in keep battles where a small force of Order will eventually be overrun by a massive army of Destruction, despite the fact that Destruction players are falling left and right.  One could say that it's simply different tactics being used by either side, and for now one might be satisfied with that answer.  After all, the bulk of players aren't even to Tier 3 yet.

But what happens when the bulk of players reaches the cap and has nothing better to do than PVP?  If Order has 100 players and Destruction has 200 (theoretical numbers of course), isn't it probable that Order will be plain ****** in world PVP?

WoW gracefully, albeit bluntly, avoided this dilemma by making world PVP fairly pointless.  The rewards for taking and holding a specific zone is akin to a pat on the back for a job well done.  Not so in Warhammer.  If Alliance takes all the T2 keeps (which they very nearly did on my server the night before last), I have nowhere to buy my RR gear.  What do I do then?

It remains to be seen how this imbalance will be corrected, or indeed if it will need to be corrected at all.  In an interview with Ten Ton Hammer, Mark Jacobs said that the process of cloning servers, which took place only a day into launch, was only the first step.  "... we are going to take other steps as well. I've already announced that we're going to have free character transfers if the servers don't even out over the next week or so."

Jacobs also commented on exactly what I've been talking about; world PVP.  "In terms of ongoing balance, it's important for people to understand that just because you're outnumbered on a server, doesn't mean that the other guys are going to win. That's the beauty of this; you can have Destruction have 20% more people than you, but in scenarios you can still kick their butt. Even in open RvR; if you go back to the Camelot days, how many times did the underpowered realm - in terms of numbers - win? It was all the time! For a lot of the people that are always complaining about their being more Destruction people, it just means that you get into a scenario faster. And for those Destruction people complaining about their not being enough Order players, within 24 hours, people should have moved to a different server."

Jacobs doesn't seem worried at all.  It remains to be seen if everything will work out like he says, though.  Anyhow, what's your take on it?

I also went destruction, i was pretty sure that it would be the most populated faction but
i decided to ignore that and go with the class that seemed most interesting to me.
I am having fun leveling and if issues arise in end-game i will consider rerolling.

Yep, there's a lot of puketards on the Destruction side, and most of them seem to roll Chosen or marauder.

Personally, I just couldn't find a class I liked on the order side of the coin, but there's still plenty of time to solve the imbalances a little bit and as the population matures, we'll probably be shedding some dead weight as they get covered with sawdust and swept up by the janitors of experience and short attention spans.

Imbalance doesn't matter in scenarios which is a great thing since they're such a huge part of the game.  In keep defense a well organized side stomps all over a scattered all-over-the-place faction.

We'll see how it plays out but on Dark Craag Destruction side is larger but Order has controlled half or more keeps every time I've checked.  The keeps change sides frequently, too.
