As Mythic builds back up to their initial 24-career roster -- recently with the Black Guard and the KOTBS -- hype and speculation are running amok over the final two careers to be added (back) in: the melee Dwarf and melee Greenskin careers. What do we know for sure? The Dwarf Hammerer is out, according to someone over in GOA, and that comes as little surprise. It wasn't a career that got anyone's pants on fire with desire, and even their weapons (hammers) got moved over to the Ironbreakers a few patches back. We also know that the Choppa (Greenskin) was a much-beloved beta career as well.
We know that Keen and Graev got a mysterious package from Mythic that either signifies that Mark Jacobs has a hair fetish, they want the next ChaosCast to be 1/3rd mohawked, or that the much-anticipated Slayer career is ready to step up and take over the Hammerer position.Â
We know that throughout development, players were loud and passionate about the inclusion of the Dwarf Slayers, to the point where Mythic had to beg off with "No more questions about Slayers! No more!" We know that there were sticking points with the lore, especially from Games Workshop's end, since Slayers seek out *a* glorious death in combat, something that's hard to achieve when you keep getting rezzed, time and again.
We'll find out for sure on January 29th, but for now, I think it's safe to assume that Order's about to get a gold-wrapped present of pure awesomeness. Here's 10 reasons why Slayers are good news for WAR:
- Slayers are one of the most beloved careers in Warhammer, and the mainstay of most tabletop players' Dwarf armies.
- The first trailer for the game featured a Slayer in melee combat with an Orc, and that Slayer was visually promoted in many ads for WAR ever since.
- Slayers add a huge dollop of "cool" to Order's looks, to counter the many, many awesome-looking Destruction careers.
- Tattoos as armor? That's not seen very often in RPGs (Planescape Torment anyone?), and would be pretty unique to the genre.
- These will be the final two careers added to the game in (presumably) a pretty long time -- and as such, might as well finish with a very prominent career!
- Red is the new orange.
- Slayers break the traditional visual theme of dwarfs in fantasy for something very punkish and edgy.
- No beards! I like the idea of male dwarfs without beards.
- Mythic might get a whole bunch of slightly confused Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans to sign up and try out the game.
- All-dwarf guilds would be able to round out their roster instead of relying on dps-specced Ironbreakers for the melee dps role.

Bring on the slayers and let coolness reside in the Order camp for a while.

Um, Slayers are not necessarily beardless, although some will cut or shave their beard when they first take the oath, as an additional sign of shame and penance.
Slayers that have been at it a while have full beards grown back for the most part.

As long as the "knockdown focused" hammerer is out, I'm a happy girl. I'm just hoping that Slayer is a little less over powered than the rest of the dwarf classes.Â

I like that you put in that Planescape: Torment reference. Tattoos as armor is indeed a cool concept.Â

My Guild Wars monk had tatoo armor. Very hardcore, running into battle doing his little healing dance, loincloth flapping in the breeze...
