Flavor of the month or no, overpowered or no, I just can't deny that I'm loving my time with my Warrior Priest, Thursday. She's a really pokey leveler -- I haven't even left T1, instead just puttering around to get all the Tome unlocks in each pairing (some of which were true adventures to achieve), maxing out oRvR influence, and reading the stories. Also, easy PQs -- I LOVE EASY PQs! It's not just for antisocial folks either; I did one the other day alongside of five other guys, and it was just as much fun as the normal/hard ones.

Anyway, 10 things I love about playing a Warrior Priest:
  1. The look -- it's a weird mix between a priest's vestments and a suit of armor, and it looks completely kickbutt awesome. Also, I love how the WP has a gorget instead of a helmet -- I never feel like I have to disable the head armor graphic just to enjoy the character head I created.
  2. Divine Assault -- I decided to spec into Salvation early just for this, because I've never loved a skill in WAR as much as Divine Assault. One button press, and suddenly I'm wailing away on a guy, doing decent damage as well as healing myself (or someone else).
  3. Heals -- On Syp, there weren't a lot of options between fights to heal up: either expensive potions or just waiting a minute or so. Even though waiting was pretty quick, often I find myself needing to get back into the action a lot faster. With a WP, I'm healing myself on the fly and never worrying about health.
  4. Medium armor and greater survivability -- Yes, yes, yes!
  5. Overplayed or not, everyone loves healers and everyone needs them.
  6. I have the choice between just fighting, doing a mix of front-line fighting/healing, or healing from the back -- I like options!
  7. The first career tactic I received gave me a shield that procs on being hit a percentage of the time. A shield on top of heals? Yes please!
  8. With AP and RF, I have two pools to draw from instead of one -- if I run out of heal juice, I still have AP to attack, and vice versa.
  9. She's a reader! Any character that carries around a book can't be all bad...
  10. Getting that "great heals!" comment after a successful scenario.

Want to really experience the fun of a Warrior Priest? Get yourself a defensive(shield) Ironbreaker to pal around with who will protect and buff you.  The two are one of the funnest duos to play in the game, especially once the WP gets the tactic that makes their detaunt AoE(not until 35).  I've seen such a duo stand up against 3x their number easily simply because the Ironbreaker is Guarding and buffing the warrior priest (Taking and often parrying/dodging blocking 50% of the damage) and the Warrior Priest is keeping all but 1 target (usually someone not much of a threat damage wise, like a BO) detaunted while wailing on the one target to keep their melee heals and DA going.  The combination of detaunt and guard means that most attacks only hit for 1 damage.

Few players are skilled and organized enough to coordinate snaring and knocking the duo far away from eachother to stop them, and you'd be surprised how many people they can hold up against. And when you place such a duo in a scenario or something where it's not 2vs6 but, 10vs10 with you two being a devil to kill it can be quite fun.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Warrior Priests! We have our cake and can eat it, too!

Emperor's Ward is a sweet early-game tactic.

You'll realize that Divine Assault really kicks ass in T1/T2 but is kind of lackluster later on soon enough. :) It's always nice on clothies, though. Truly, where the WP shines later is in AoE and group heals, depending on your spec (Salv/Grace). If you happen to want to DPS, Wrath does pretty solid single-target damage... but it's still quite vulnerable defensively and brings a lot less to groups. Your best fighting chance against a solo Witch Elf is probably Grace spec, which I'd be if  I didn't need to be Salvation to farm warded gear at 40 right now. :/

Still, it's a killer class, and uber-versatile. The chance to switch completely between playstyles depending on your mood/spec is really nice, and each one is quite viable (though I'd say that Wrath could use a little love right now.) If I didn't have to be Salv right now, I'd definitely go back to Grace and kick some arse.
