In the hubbub of Patch 1.2, it'd be pretty easy to overlook that the new WAR forums are about to transfer from beta to... omega?  To launch, I guess.

You may choose to get overly cynical about the game, but in truth there's really far more to be happy than upset over, and it's good to remember that from time to time.  I particularly enjoyed this one poster's (Thaolin) excitement over the current additions to WAR:

Mythic Entertainment, now you've gone and done it. The majority of the changes in patch 1.2 were fantastic.
I'm Staying.

Mythic Dev team. You fixed over 500 bugs with the game in ONE patch. I mean what is with that? Where did I ask for you to fix so many bugs?
I'm Staying.

Class and Careers team? What were you thinking!? You brought classes down to a base level to re-examine them with a class and careers patch in the immediate future? Who wants a class review? Seriously?
I'm Staying.

Whoa whoa whoa, back up. A Free expansion? FREE!? Where do you get off. Hundreds of Megabytes of free content and features? What are you smoking guys? I mean cmon.
I'm Staying.

Official Forums? Do you have any idea how much those cost to maintain for a game of this caliber? AND you didn't raise the subscription fee by any margin whatsoever? Unbelieveable.
I'm Staying.

I want to speak to the guy that handles your hiring Myhtic. Where do you get off hiring people that listen to their community? Developers that read the official forums? How dare they!! And they even post thank you posts!? I can't believe this.
I'm Staying.

Wait, hold up. 2 major patches in one quarter? I can't wrap my head around ONE! Absolutely unbelieveable. I don't know who runs that place.
I'm Staying.

In conclusion Mythic. I have to say, creating a game that has released more free content and bug fixes in the first 5 months then any other competeing game in such a short period of time is ludicrous. You didn't even wait until half a year! I can't believe this! Your community even knows what you all look like!! Who's idea was PODCASTS? I never asked to see you people (Well except maybe Paul, everyone knows how hot he is). Outrageous job Mythic. Now you've gone and done something you might regret.

We're all staying.

That post is humorous at best, seriously.  It's a giant idealogical statement for a video game.  For humor's sake, let's examine each of his posts  under a different light:

"Mythic Dev team. You fixed over 500 bugs with the game in ONE patch. I mean what is with that? Where did I ask for you to fix so many bugs?"

The real question is why were there 500 bugs to begin with?  This is not Mythic's first MMO, nor was this their first time with either the graphics engine or the net code.  Compare this to the release of LotrO, done by another MMO veteran.  They had issues with accounts and characters, but the game world itself was stable at launch.  Fixing 500 bugs 6 months after release is not something to be proud of.

"Class and Careers team? What were you thinking!? You brought classes down to a base level to re-examine them with a class and careers patch in the immediate future? Who wants a class review? Seriously?"

Making such drastic changes to the classes 6 months after release is a sign of poor character design, bad testing, and ignoring feedback from beta players.  No surprise there given the horror stories I've heard about Mythic's beta process.

"Whoa whoa whoa, back up. A Free expansion? FREE!? Where do you get off. Hundreds of Megabytes of free content and features? What are you smoking guys? I mean cmon."

Why is the expansion free? Also, this is nothing new, DAoC has 2 free expansions: housing and the frontiers revamp.

"Official Forums? Do you have any idea how much those cost to maintain for a game of this caliber? AND you didn't raise the subscription fee by any margin whatsoever? Unbelieveable."

.. and yet, every other MMO development company, even Advertine, has forums for its game.  Becoming a Lithium host is nothing major.

"I want to speak to the guy that handles your hiring Myhtic. Where do you get off hiring people that listen to their community? Developers that read the official forums? How dare they!! And they even post thank you posts!? I can't believe this."

The job of a community manager is to try interact with the community to present the impression that the company is responsive. As for the developers themselves, well, we'll see if they last longer under Mythic's board administration than they did at the Vault's Round Table.  Mark also has a habit of spinning his mouth on all sort of forums and replying to people.

"Wait, hold up. 2 major patches in one quarter? I can't wrap my head around ONE! Absolutely unbelieveable. I don't know who runs that place."

A patch is a collection of bug fixes and adjustments.  Having 2 major ones the revamp the game are signs of bad design and shoddy implementation.

"In conclusion Mythic. Free content implies the content was new, not content that was cut from release due to bugs.  500 bug fixes are bad, as I said earlier.  Podcasts? Whoop de do.  Blizzard has been doing podcasts for sometime now.  youTube? Mythuc gets some credit there, but not much.

This is one giant attempt to no only paint lipsticks on a pig, but also dress her in a evenign gown and call her Ms. USA.

"Evenign gowns" aside, you could just quit the grumpy gus routine and let people enjoy being happy over something.  But, nah, grinches can't stand the singing down in Whoville...

My misspelling of evening gown aside, there's no reason to quit the "grumpy Gus" routine.  The Whos are happy because Mythic is cleaning up the pig, without giving so much as a though as to why they got a pig in the first place.   This isn't some grand ideological statement, this is an attempt to hide the fact that Mythic released a subpar product that's essentially a cheap ripoff of WoW with "gamer pride".

Misery loves company, so go elsewhere.  Here we love this game and are actually excited when it improves.  Your attitude is that of a petulant kid who whines that a fallible parent isn't doing enough, never enough.  You can be critical of this or any title without being overly cynical, and you can be enthusiastic about it without calling down a nerdstorm of trolls who can't stand to see people like something they hate.

Oh please. I suppose you forgot that WoW basically ripped off every MMO that came before it. That statement is completely redundant due to it being the industry norm for MMOs. New MMOs look at what older ones did right and try and improve on it. Simple fact. Lets not forget that Warcraft is a rip-off of the Warhammer Fantasy universe either...

The cynicism is well justified.  Mythic is not some new company that's released an MMO, it's company with a history of online game development that includes the release and maintenance of one fairly successful game. There is no reason why the game had as many bugs as it did upon release.   The cyniscism is also based off comments made by Mark Jacobs, Jeff Hickman, and Paul Barnett.  The former 2 inidcated they learned lessons from DAoC's decline and promised not to repeat them.  And yet, here with their second gen RvR MMO, not only did ignore those lessons, they peppered the game with bad design choices that indicate a desire to not produce a quality game, but one that had quantity.

Additionally, you may not like my whining petulance, but at the very least I addressed the comments of the post, and left the poster alone..  I suggest you take off those fanboi or fangrrl glasses and take a hard look at the thing Mythic delivered you.

I did look at it, and I prefer it to WoW. Your opinions are just that, opinions. You can go on all day about how much the game sucks and whatnot, but if you really feel that way, then STOP PLAYING IT. If you are so cynical about the game and know it will fail, then leave the game and community behind and bask in the glory of your self-righteous analysis.

We aren't being fanboys here, but you aren't being constructive in the least with your criticism. No product is ever perfect, WAR is getting bugfixes and improvements, yet you complain about how there were so many to fix. I guess you don't remember the WoW launch. I guess every MMO should be perfect upon release cause you know, there is never any way to fix bugs or adjust design choices, nope, no way.

I am so sick of the constant complaining I see everywhere. No matter the MMO.

Company fixes bug A,B &C . Stereotypical complainer then jumps up and down about why bugs D&E were not fixed and why bugs A,B & C were even in there in the first place. Because software should ship with zero bugs, just look at the billion dollar Microsoft or Apple, all their software is bug free! (sarcasm!) Heck, even NASA loses rockets/satellies due to bugs every now and then.

NASA cant even release perfect software and their budget is a little bigger than EA/Mythic.

Best blog reply on the net of the day, Syp!

Seriously... you are either part of the solution or the problem Delmania...  We here choose to work toward the solution to fix Warhammer Online...  you seem to feed off the problems ....so please go somewhere else and stop flaming (your boisterous voice will get you no where).
