Night of Murder Report Card

I guess the score on this event varies depending on which server you are on.  I keep hearing players say that this event draws more players to oRvR areas.  I didn't see any difference.  On Monolith typically there is a Warband roaming the oRvR lakes as early as 8am EST.  By the end of the day there are at least 2-4 full Warbands roaming around.

My main gripe about this event was the fact that it did not feel like an event to me.  I was hoping for more MURDER.  I thought there would be special objectives inside oRvR areas besides the ones that already exists there.  It feels like all they did was put lipstick on a pig and call it a Live Event.  Considering the fact that the majority of people that play MMOs have experienced a vast majority of special events in other games.  You would think they would beef up these so call live events and add more of twist or bang to it.

F for Fail. First of all, I agree with Pwnsan, it was not fun, it did not feel like an event and it did not change the world in any way, and that pretty much sums it up as well.

I don't know what Mythic wants live events to be, but if they are not fun then why put them in a game (which should be fun to begin with). One could argue that the events should break the "monotonic" nature of the normal game play in some way or form, and this one did not (not on the server I've played this week). One could argue that the events could try to bring people together in ways that the game does not normally do; this one did not. One could argue that events should amplify or boost or bring to center stage aspects of the game that don't normally get that attention; this one did not. One could argue that live events are there to bring extra fluff to the game and I guess this one did, and it even did it in a way that did not affect normal game play. Besides this, I only see the event as a live test for "raid icons": wouldn't it be great to have the skull mark on the main assist target?

As for actual failures, I think this event had the same problem all previous ones have had, in addition to not having a real focus: it had the random components where you can't control the outcome of the quests. You can't make others do a scenario, you can't make opposing side guild leaders or officers take part in RvR when you are there, and you can't make the opposing side do open RvR either. In the end, it simply becomes a grind against odds. This time I chose to ignore the event completely, so I can't say that I'm frustrated by it (as I have been after each of the past three events). Has the event been a success if I feel relief, joy and freedom from ignoring it?
