Having hit 35 and pretty comfortable in the T4 groove, my thoughts have started to drift strongly in the direction of creating my first serious Order alt.  It's actually a pretty involved process for me, because I have quite a few considerations and factors to keep in mind:

  1. Because I devoted Syp to going through all of the Dwarf content, I'm not interested in rerolling a Dwarf, as intriguing as the Rune Priest or Ironbreaker might seem.  Perhaps if they do Slayers.  Perhaps.
  2. So that leaves me with one potential serious alt for the Empire, and one alt for High Elves.  High Elves aren't a tough choice for me -- the only career in that race that doesn't set my teeth on permanent edge are the White Lions.
  3. As for Order, Bright Wizards are out (I never like playing a pure mage class), and although I totally love the look and theme of the Witch Hunter, I'm not the rogue type and I don't want to play yet another class with light armor.  The Knight suffers the opposite problem -- I really like the mechanics and skill and survivability of the career, but the look... egads, it's like they made a mockery of everything cool that knights should be.  Feathered hats?  Puffy Seinfeld shirts?  Wavy sun decals?  Ugh.  I couldn't play that class and look at myself in the morning.  That leaves Warrior Priests, which fortunately I like both their looks AND the idea of a guy who can heal, has decent survivability, and can wade into melee combat if need be.
So a Warrior Priest will probably be first on the docket, with a White Lion down the road.  Snafzg's also trying to entice me into playing a Destruction alt one night a week as a team, so perhaps a Black Orc is in my future again after all.  Or Chosen -- both seem pretty nifty as tanks, and no puffy shirts there.

I've also been strongly evaluating my play style with Syp, and have determined that there's a few things I've been doing wrong to leech some of the content and potential enjoyment from the game that I wish to rectify on my next run-through.  Call them new career resolutions:
  1. I will take time to actually read quest and Tome content fully, even though my gamer sense doesn't want to slow down to do so.
  2. As I progress through zones, I will attempt to get as many, if not all, of the Tome unlocks associated with that zone so I won't have to go back and do them later.
  3. I will fully utilize Kill Collectors for their sweet, sweet XP kill bonuses.
  4. I will be far more social, looking to actively join or form groups for PQs and RvR runs.
  5. I won't be in a rush to level.  Since I already have a T4 character, there's no need to push up there as I won't be excluded from any big guild or oRvR content.
  6. I'll try to keep my renown leveling up there as much as possible instead of letting it slide.
I still don't think I'll try crafting, though, and that is a shame.  I don't have a timeline for all this... it would be cool to get Syp to 40 before starting an alt, but I know that 40 isn't the end of the road for Syp either.  So many things left to do.

I rolled a WP because I wanted to be a healer but not a sissy healer. I had a Cleric in DAOC and that wasnt the type of char I wanted but it was close. They did everything right with WP. Loads of fun, i HIGHLY recommend you give it some thought.

Word of advice.. If your going to solo and not do much RVR go WRATH, it will help you kill things much much faster. WP solo questing can be a grinding nightmare if your not two handing it with your wrath prayer up.

Personally I find the WP/DoK mechanic one of the most innovative and tactically challenging in many games I have played, a defensive and offensive target, makes all the difference.

As for solo: welcome to one of the 2 classes in the game that can solo champs easily. The DoK/WP are amazing for that. Put 2 WP or 2 DoK together and you have a duo team that take on BOs in T2-T3.

Amazing stuff.

The amount of work and polish Mythic put in really shows with the WP and the DoK. They're a blast to play, work well in combat, and are challenging to boot. They almost cancel each other out and their skills are synergistic. Aside from their lack of CC, they work well against other classes without being OP.

At least, I think they do. :P

Of course those who play as a WP dont see them as OP... When a twinked 28 chosen takes on a 25 WP one on one it shouldnt be a contest but it is, usually in the healer's favor. Yeah sure "They can heal themselves" and all that business but correct me if im wrong, spells should be interruptable, especially those 3 second casts for major heals. When Im wailing on a WP and I see him just stand there casting while receiving a thorough prostate exam via my greatsword, the word "overpowered" does cross my mind. Im sure the DOK is the exact same. I guess Im a purist: Pure healer/caster or Pure tank, not both. I love the shammy... In SC I get about twice as much healing done as dmg but those amounts are considerable. However, i bust like a pinata when hit with even a minor blow, as it should be.

McKillface, I play a pure healer DoK. You get the same results.  While I'm drawing from a pool other than AP, I've found that it gives me VERY little downtime between casts(even the group heals). The tradeoff is that my Heals are a slightly less than your average healer. However the bonuses...

-Attack that runs off Soul essence instead of AP, that both heals and does damage, and is usuable almost instantly after hitting the run button due to soul essence restoration off of items.
-Medium armor allowing me to put more  emphasis on Willpower items than toughness and Wounds that other players need.

However we have downsides...
-Unless we're just sitting there healing, we will always be out of AP. The pool feels awful low for a caster class. Maybe our attacks are just expensive.
-Like all other healers we're targeted first.  and we're target by groups. We can handle a withhunter, or a tank... but a witchhunter and a tank... Bad.
- Late bloomer. Our heals won't get good untill we can pick up some really good gear. Think Renown Rank 18. :( Better spend lots of time in Ost/Troll country for that stupid chalice(book if your a WP)

Overall, it's juust fun showing everyone that a DoK can outheal most other healers 95% of the time in scenarios.

I understand its all about how you play them. One thing War did really well is line divisions: Pure casters in the back throwing out big DPS/heals, Cross classes (DOK/WP) alternating between the middle and front lines, and the tanks up front. I would even venture to say that tanks need to go beyond the front and attack THEIR back lines, while the crosses support the tanks and watch the casters. I guess overpowerd is the wrong word; i just think that certain classes have a disproportionate ability to survive really tough situations. As a tank, in PVP the ONLY way to do your job successfully is to have a healer dumping heals into you, which is to be expected. The same holds true for pure casters; they dont last too long without a meat shield. I guess it would be accurate to compare the crosses to Rambo: They bust in, wreck up the place, and it seems that the MILLIONS of bullets fired at them have no effect. And the tank is the (nerd alert) miscellaneous no name crew member from Star Trek who gets picked as part of the landing party with Spock and Bones: fodder who is always the first and often the the only one to be killed or maimed.
